Jill Carlyle lived, breathed and photographed the East Coast region in the late 1900s. Her images hang in households from Gisborne to Te Araroa. They have been printed in magazines, calendars, postcards and books. They have been collected by museums and galleries.

Jill carried her camera to all special occasions and the everyday happenings. Street life, Marae life, beach life, church life and landscapes are all covered and shown in this extensive exhibition survey.

Jill placed most of her negatives in the Tairāwhiti Museum before her untimely death in 2023. After which, her family generously donated all her material to the museum.

Now, we have a time to revisit her lifetime of image making and celebrate her recording of life on the East Coast.
