Noman WJ Scott (b. 1913, d. 1978) was born in Gisborne. Scott served in the Royal Air Force in WW2 and was captured as a Prisoner of War. After the war he attended the Slade School of Art in London and graduated with a Diploma in Fine Arts. Norman Scott returned to Gisborne in 1948 and spent the rest of his life working full-time as an artist. He is perhaps best remembered for his oil paintings, though he was a very competent watercolourist and sculptor.
