Liminal Space – Cyndy Mckenzie

Exhibition/whakaaturanga

Dates: 27/03/21 - 23/05/21
Opening: 26/03/21 5:30 pm

Cyndy Mckenzie was born and grew up in Tairāwhiti Gisborne and now lives in Ōtepoti Dunedin, Otago. Cyndy is a practising artist and teaches on the Fashion programme at the College of Art, Design and Architecture, Otago Polytechnic.

Cyndy has a love for the natural phenomena within the world around. These natural phenomena catch her eye, creating a kind of wonder that mesmerises her and helps initiate her practice. This embraces the ephemeral qualities of movement, light, shadow, reflection, and surface. Cyndy is specifically interested in combining these qualities through critical enquiry while exploring the possibilities of diverse materials through a process of making. Through her work she tries to capture the mesmerising wonder of felt experience.

Her latest work is centred around phenomenological experience and seeks to challenge the visitor’s perception of space, to ask what does looking feel like?
